The grounds are open every day from dawn until dusk, and there is never a charge to visit.
Where we are
The cemetery is on Butler Road, just outside the hamlet of Hammond, in the City of Clarence-Rockland, Ontario. It sits on part of Lot 17, Concession VIII, former Clarence Township, County of Russell, a short distance from North Indian Creek.
There is no sign at the entrance
This catches out most first-time visitors. The cemetery is not identified by any sign from the road. Set your navigation to the coordinates below rather than searching by name, and look for the burial ground itself — a fenced enclosure of stones set back from Butler Road.

Driving directions
From Ottawa (about 45 minutes)
- Take Highway 417 east toward Montréal.
- Leave the 417 at the Rockland / Bourget area exits and follow signs toward Hammond.
- Follow local roads into the hamlet of Hammond.
- Turn onto Butler Road. The cemetery is on this road, set back from the roadway.
From Rockland (about 10 minutes)
- Head south out of Rockland toward Clarence Creek and Hammond.
- Continue through Hammond and turn onto Butler Road.
From Bourget (about 10 minutes)
- Head west toward Hammond.
- Turn onto Butler Road.

What to expect
- Parking. Roadside. There is no formal car park.
- Ground conditions. Grass, uneven in places, and soft after rain. Sensible footwear helps.
- Accessibility. The ground is not level and there are no paved paths. Visitors using a wheelchair or walker should contact us in advance and we will do what we can to help you reach a particular grave.
- Facilities. None. There is no washroom, no water tap and no waste bin. Please take away what you bring.
- Mobile signal. Generally serviceable, but do not count on it.
- Winter. Butler Road is maintained; the cemetery grounds themselves are not cleared of snow.
Finding a particular grave
The cemetery is small enough to walk in full in well under an hour, and many visitors simply find the stone themselves. If you would rather not search, write to us beforehand with the name and we will send you the plot location from the register, and where possible a description of how to find it. There is no charge.
Please remember
People are buried here whose families still visit them. Keep to the roadways with your vehicle, walk between the rows rather than over graves, take your rubbish with you, and treat the older stones gently — a nineteenth-century marble marker can be toppled by a push.
